JD Edwards (JDE) is one of the world’s leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. It plays a critical role for businesses, forming a solid foundation for important IT projects, supply chain management, sales, and human capital management operations and among others.

The earliest version of the JDE ERP software was JD Edwards World. This 1980s release focused on accounting and was server-centric. Businesses would use the ERP technology leveraging IBM’s green screen.

In 1996 the company upgraded the software to JD Edwards One World which used a graphical user interface and Configurable Network Computing (CNC). The next years saw a robust evolution in the software, including a web-based client rollout in 2001.

In 2003, PeopleSoft bought the company, rebranding the ERP package to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Oracle later bought PeopleSoft in 2004, taking over JDE as well.

JD Edwards World

Oracle still supports JDE World, an older version of the ERP. It provides a single platform solution for improved collaboration within and outside a business network. JDE World has upgraded versions, including version A7.3, A8.1, and A9.4. Oracle recommends all JDE World users to upgrade to A9.4, the latest version.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

Most businesses have since migrated to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. It’s well-equipped to support the evolving needs of businesses in the age of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.  EnterpriseOne incorporates business-specific solutions for healthcare, real estate, manufacturing, and other verticals.

The latest tools release (9.2.3) has improvements that include a notification message center, Form Extension enhancements, and 64-bit computing.
