JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Server Sizing Process:

A sizing estimate is an approximation of the hardware resources required to support an EnterpriseOne implementation. It is a pre-sales effort based on information available at a point in time, providing an entry into understanding the customer's hardware requirements. Customers' actual experiences will vary from the sizing estimate for many reasons, including batch and reporting workloads, interfaces and custom code. The degree of variability can range from small to very significant.

To determine the most appropriate architecture and server/client recommendations for the customer, CDS follows the EnterpriseOne sizing methodology. This process consists of the following steps:

  1. Technology Review: Meet with the customer to understand current hardware infrastructure, requirements for the future, and collect pertinent information and details for the sizing process. This information will allow CDS to provide an estimation of the processor class, memory, and disk space requirements for the database/enterprise server, and if applicable, business function servers, batch servers, Windows terminal servers and HTML servers.
    .
  2. Fill in Sizing and Planning Questionnaire: CDS fills in the EnterpriseOne sizing request document using the information gathered during the Technology Review. Some manipulation of the data may be required to ensure that the parameters on the sizing document will yield an appropriate result for the customer. This step also requires formulation of the potential solution architecture that will best fit the customer's environment.
    .
  3. Submit Sizing Request to Competency Center: CDS electronically submits the sizing and planning document to IBM/Oracle Competency Center. The translated requirements are analyzed in comparison to current EnterpriseOne software benchmarks and are used to arrive at the estimated sizing. The current methodology is a user-based sizing approach. Depending on the complexity of the situation and the number of sizing requests in the queue, it can take 1 to 4 days for CDS to receive the results.
    .
  4. Review Sizing Results: In this step, CDS reviews the sizing results in preparation for building the server configurations.
    .
  5. Build Server Configurations: Convert the sizing results into the appropriate server configurations.
    .
  6. Review Configurations and Formulate Proposal: CDS will typically review the recommended configurations and make any necessary adjustments prior to formulating the server proposal.
